The Philadelphia Eagles finally open the 2026 NFL season against the Washington Commanders, and RB has his final prediction for the matchup.
RB believes Philadelphia is the better team and expects the Eagles to eventually pull away, with his official prediction coming in at Eagles 26, Commanders 13.
The biggest key for Philadelphia will be defense.
RB believes the Eagles cannot allow Washington to hit explosive plays, particularly with Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs capable of creating big plays. Vic Fangio's defense has been much better at preventing explosive plays, and RB expects Philadelphia to keep Daniels contained while putting pressure on him throughout the game.
Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis could also be major factors. RB believes the two Eagles defensive tackles have a chance to become one of the best interior defensive line tandems in the NFL and expects them to make a statement in Week 1.
RB also discusses the uncertainty surrounding Jonathan Greenard. Greenard returned to practice after missing months with a pec injury, but he admitted that he does not yet know if he'll be ready to play Sunday. RB believes Philadelphia can survive if Greenard doesn't play, but getting him back into the rotation soon would be a major boost for the defense.
On offense, RB wants to see Philadelphia establish the run with Saquon Barkley and get creative with the new Sean Mannion offense.
That means more play-action, rollouts, under-center formations, designed movement and opportunities for Jalen Hurts to use his legs.
RB isn't expecting the Eagles' offense to be perfect immediately. Instead, he believes it could take Philadelphia a few drives to find its rhythm before the offense starts opening up.
DeVonta Smith could also be in line for a massive game. After former Eagle Jason Avant called Smith a more complete receiver than AJ Brown, RB believes this could be Smith's statement game and an opportunity to prove he can be Philadelphia's true No. 1 receiver.
Saquon Barkley is also entering the season with something to prove. After being told only four running backs in the past two decades have rushed for more than 1,300 yards at age 29, Barkley made it clear that his competitive mentality has him believing he can be the next player to do it.
So will the Eagles start the season 1-0?
RB's official prediction:
Eagles 26, Commanders 13.
Philadelphia covers, the defense takes over late and Saquon Barkley breaks off a big run.
